Harpers Ferry Flint Lock rifle converted to Percussion during the first years of the civil war . The lock on this gun has the following markings that are weak but mostly readable : U. S. and a eagle with arrows in its feet . The words " Harpers Ferry " and a date behind the hammer that is really weak . The barrel is 36 inches long and is about 75 caliber with a smooth bore and has the VP and eagle proof at the rear of the barrel near the hammer .The metal furniture is complete and all original including the ram rod .The wood stock is excellent with only a few small tight cracks and 85% of the original finish . The metal butt plate has the U.S. marking and is not pitted or damaged . The metal is a brown patina with some pitting near the hammer from use of black powder . The gun is in very good mechanical working order. A very nice original attic find of a early civil war rifle . # 4985
